The University of Johannesburg (UJ) cricket camp is buzzing with momentum as both the A and B teams hit their stride in the opening weeks of the 2026 season. Demonstrating depth, and brilliance on the pitch, UJ has taken the Enza Premier League and the 50-over competition by storm.

Carrying a wave of early-season energy, the UJ squads have racked up a pristine 3-from-3 record in October 2026. Among these victories are resounding statements against fierce rivals Wits Cricket Club and Delfos Cricket Club, showcasing the club’s dominance across multiple formats.
While the team tasted heartbreakingly close defeat in the playoffs of the McDonald’s T20 competition – hindered by a spate of injuries that sidelined key players and prevented the side from fielding its full-strength XI – the overall trajectory of the club remains exceptionally high.
Record-Breaking Batting and World-Class Bowling
The early weeks of October will long be remembered for individual masterclasses that left spectators in awe.
- Eduard Dreyer’s Historic Knock: UJ’s Dreyer etched his name into local lore with a mammoth, unbeaten 205 not out against Wits. Displaying extraordinary stamina, technical mastery, and aggressive stroke play, Dreyer’s double-century stands as one of the finest individual innings of the season.
- Dayalan Boyce’s Strike Power: Fresh off representing the South African Emerging Team, standout bowler Boyce has seamlessly translated his international experience to the domestic stage. Boyce delivered vital spells and crucial breakthroughs under pressure in the fixtures against Wits and Delfos, anchoring UJ’s bowling attack with precision and flair.

Adding to the university’s celebratory mood, the UJ ladies’ cricket team officially commenced their season in style, securing a commanding opening win. The victory sets an inspiring tone for the women’s campaign as they look to build on last season’s successes and establish their own dominance in the regional circuit.
“Our squads have shown incredible grit this October,” noted team management. “From historic batting feats to resilient bowling performances despite injury setbacks, UJ cricket is proving that we have the talent and depth to challenge for every title this season.”
With the Enza Premier League and 50-over campaigns heating up, UJ cricket looks primed to maintain its ferocious pace as the summer fixtures unfold before heading into the University Sport South Africa (USSA) championships in Potchefstroom, North-West, in December 2026.
