In its second half of the 2016 graduations, 3 to 14 June 2016, the University of Johannesburg (UJ) has awarded nine Chancellor’s Medals to the most meritorious Master’s graduates. Walking across the Arts Centre stage, the newly announced venue for graduations following the recent arson attack on the University’s the Sanlam Auditorium, outstanding graduates received faculty prizes for their excellent academic performance.

At each year’s graduation ceremonies, UJ awards the Chancellor’s Medals and Faculty Prizes to the most achieving graduates. This June, six graduates were awarded Faculty Prizes. The Faculty of Science awarded the S2A3 Bronze Medal of the Southern Africa Association for the Advancement of Science, the Masters Medals (bronze).

“In the past two weeks, 2 222 UJ graduates have proudly walked the stage in acknowledgement of them completing their studies. In light of the recent arson attack that caused extensive damage to the main Auditorium, the graduation sessions take place at the University’s Art Centre. We are extremely proud of our students, academics, professional and support staff, who, amidst challenging times, demonstrated extraordinary professionalism, dedication and tenacity, to ensure that this special event in the lives of our new graduates can be celebrated with their loved ones in such ideal facilities,” said Prof Ihron Rensburg, Vice-Chancellor and Principal, UJ.

The S2A3 Bronze Medals of the Southern Africa Association for the Advancement of Science Master’s Medals (bronze) have been awarded annually to the most outstanding research student in a scientific subject graduating at the Masters level at each South African university (since 1981) and university of technology (since 2001).
