The University of Johannesburg (UJ) will host a pan-African policy conference on the proposed African Research and Innovation Council (ARIC) at its Kingsway Auckland Park Campus, C-Ring 319, on Wednesday, 18 April. The meeting is scheduled to start at 9:00 until 14:30.
More than 60 delegates across five sub-regions of the African continent, representing leaders of research councils, organisations, university administrators, senior academics, and representatives of the African Union Commission, will engage on governance structure, operational procedures, and partnerships policy of the proposed ARIC.
The African Union will announce the launch of the ARIC in November 2012 in Addis Ababa. The establishment of the ARIC will play a huge role in the institutional architecture of the African scientific research landscape as it will be the first pan-African council for science that will be dedicated to financing research and innovation for the advancement of the African development agenda.
“This conference forms part of the broad collaborative relationship between UJ and the United Nations African Institute fir Economic Development and Planning (IDEP), which is headquartered in Dakar, Senegal,” says Dr Pinkie Mekgwe, Executive Director: Internationalisation, UJ.
