UJ to launch Africa By Bus+ initiative

The University of Johannesburg (UJ) will relaunch its Pan-African flagship cultural immersion programme, Africa By Bus (ABB). Initially launched in 2017, the programme seeks to connect students and staff to Africa through academic exchanges, cultural immersion, institutional networking, collaborative research and engagement with industry. This contributes to advancing UJ’s Pan-African identity, strengthening international partnerships and developing globally minded graduates.

Aligned with UJ’s Strategic Plan 2035, The programme has seen hundreds of students travel to various African countries, including Eswatini, Mozambique, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Botswana and even China, to name a few. The trips provide students with real world learning opportunities in practical settings and enhanced international relations.

In its new iteration as ABB+, it will emphasise continuity, while also denoting renewal and re-imagination, with the “+” showcasing that it is about more than just travelling by bus: the bus has a reason for departing, and returns carrying more than it left with.

Members of the media are invited to attend the relaunch event under the following details:
