​​Dr Mamphela Ramphele to address Women’s Month celebratory event – Wednesday, 7 August 2013 ​

This year, the University of Johannesburg (UJ) celebrates women’s month with a special event that reflects the essence of what a woman is and to pay homage to the women of our nation – the mothers, the wives, the sisters and the daughters who contributed to the prosperity and progress of the country.

Despite the substantial role women played in the struggle for women’s rights in economic, social, political and cultural domain women are still sometimes judged on their physical beauty and not their moral and intellectual strength. The questions: Is beauty skin deep? and What is it that makes a woman beautiful?, will be explored at ae luncheon event that brings together a panel consisting of eminent plastic surgeons, a former Miss South Africa, and high profile hosts at the Johannesburg Country Club on Wednesday, 7 August 2013.

Dr Mamphela Aletta Ramphele, – South African politician; former activist against apartheid; medical doctor; academic; businesswoman and founder of the new political party, AgangSA – will be the keynote speaker.

The panelists include Dr Reza Mia, Aesthetic Doctor and an expert on Botox, Dermal Fillers and Chemical Peels; Dr Ridwan Mia, well-known Plastic & Reconstructive Surgeon responsible for the skin transplant performed on three-year-old Isabella “Pippie” Kruger; Dr Carol Benn, a special surgeon and head of the Helen Joseph Breast Unit and the Netcare Breast Care Centre of Excellence in Johannesburg; Professor Harry Seftel, well-known healthcare practitioner, author and radio personality, as well as former Miss South Africa and UJ alumnus, Bokang Montjane. The panel discussion will be facilitated by South African radio and television personality, Michelle Constant.​
