In the morning of the 16th April 2014, one of our students informed UJ security staff at the Soweto campus that around midday on the 15th of April 2014 he was abducted at or near the UJ Soweto campus.
The student, who is safe and unharmed, reported the matter to the police on Wednesday (16th April 2014) morning. The University is working closely with the police and the student to establish the full facts regarding this matter after which a formal statement will be made.
While we are investigating the matter, the University wishes to assure UJ staff, students and visitors that our campuses are secure and have a stringent access control regime. UJ also has adequate security surveillance systems located at various key points inside all our campuses.
Following this recent report, security measures have been further tightened at the Soweto Campus.
