UJ School of Tourism and Hospitality opens doors for Grade 10, 11 and 12 learners

A unique industry that thrives on providing the best service to locals and internationals, Tourism and Hospitality are among some of the best sectors driving South Africa’s economic development. On Saturday, 14 May 2016, the University of Johannesburg’s (UJ) School of Tourism and Hospitality (STH) will be ensuring that this sector continues to grow – as the School will be opening its doors to Grade 10, 11 and 12 learners that wish to study towards the industry in their near future.

In an Open Day scheduled to start from 09am and run until 3pm, the STH will be providing guidance on what career opportunities are available in the tourism and hospitality sector, how to access funding for studies, and showcase a practical application of learning with current students, among many other things.

“This is a purpose-built learning environment at the UJ STH, designed to develop sought after, future fit leaders who create legacies. We urge parents, individuals and school leaders to bring their learners,” says Dr Diane Abrahams, Director: STH. “We generate employment, the benefits are many. STH is one of the biggest graduate contributors in the South African tourism and hospitality industry – and for that, we know that we have a duty to provide proper career guidance to our future industry leaders. This Open Day is unique and highly informative as it is purely designed for candidates who enrol based on passion.”

Hospitality and Tourism Management qualifications contextualise management and service theory specifically for the fast-growing hospitality sector. It covers the key disciplines of hospitality marketing, human resources, finance and management – all necessary for future managers to make effective decisions in regards to their establishment.

  • BTech: Tourism or Hospitality Management
  • BA: Tourism Development
  • BA Hons: Tourism Development
  • Master’s degree: Tourism and Hospitality Management
