UJ recognised in 2019 Times Higher Education Subject Rankings

The University of Johannesburg (UJ) has been recognised in the 2019 Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings by Subject which were released on Wednesday, 17 October 2018. This first set of rankings releases for 2019 comprises the subject rankings results for the following four subjects: Business & Economics, Education, Law, and Social Sciences.

The University of Johannesburg (UJ) has been ranked in these subjects as follows:

Business & Economics:

UJ makes its debut in the THE Business & Economics Subject Ranking in this year’s 2019 edition, ranked in the Top 500 worldwide in the 401–500 band.The Business & Economics Subject Ranking table has been expanded this year to include the Top 585 universities globally, up from the Top 200 that was published last year.

Education:

UJ makes its debut in the THE Education Subject Ranking in this year’s 2019 edition, ranked in the Top 400 worldwide in the 301–400 band. The Education Subject Ranking table has been expanded this year to include the Top 428 universities globally, up from the Top 100 that was published last year.

Law:

UJ makes its debut in the THE Law Subject Ranking in this year’s 2019 edition, ranked in the Top 187 worldwide in the 151+ band. The Law Subject Ranking table has been expanded this year to include the Top 187 universities globally, up from the Top 100 that was published last year.

Social Sciences:

UJ has been ranked in the Top 400 worldwide in the 301–400 band in the THE Social Sciences Subject Ranking in this year’s 2019 edition. The Social Sciences Subject Ranking table has been expanded this year to include the Top 666 universities globally, up from the Top 400 that was published last year.

Overall, 11 subject rankings will be published for 2019; the remaining seven tables will be released over three dates in October and November. Eight of the lists include more than 500 universities for the first time.

The subject rankings are based on the same range of 13 performance indicators used in the overall World University Rankings 2019, however the methodology is recalibrated for each subject to suit the individual fields.
