The results of the June 2018 Initial Test of Competence (ITC) of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants’ (SAICA) released today reaffirms UJ in leading Accounting Education in South Africa.

The ITC is the first of two professional examinations in which candidate Chartered Accountants (CAs) are required to pass in order to register as CAs.

Following the June results, UJ has an overall pass rate of 93% for the 2018 cohort, compared to the national pass rate of 88%.

Thus, UJ continues to contribute to the growth of the Accounting Profession with a total of 304 students passing the SAICA ITC exams in 2018.

Being the largest number of successful candidates of all residential universities, confirms UJ’s leadership position in transforming the Accounting Profession in South Africa.

UJ is among the main contributors of African candidates with 167 successful African candidates passing the SAICA ITC exams in 2018, accounting for the highest number of African candidates of all residential universities nationwide and contributing 15% of all African passes in the 2018 ITC.

SAICA also acknowledges the role that UJ has played in the Thuthuka ITC Repeat programme – offered to black candidates across universities – at a pass rate of 71%, compared to the national pass rate of 61%.

We are extremely proud of the fact that Simon Basson achieved the Number One position, with Brett Black also placed in the Top 10 during the SAICA ITC Exams in 2018.”
