UJ highlights some achievements: UJ’s FYE instrumental in improving success rate

The University’s First Year Experience Programme (FYE), introduced in 2010 with the aim to ease the school-to-university transition, have been re-energised with intensified staff focus and greater student awareness.

The FYE offers academic skills reinforcement through an Academic Development Centre and psycho-social assistance through the university’s Centre for Psychological Services and Career Development (PsyCaD). Undergraduate first-time entering students’ success rate improved by 3.5%, from 76.5% in 2011 to 80.0% in 2012, mainly due to better selection of first time entrants and the University’s FYE.
