The UJ Development Office in partnership with UJ Arts & Culture present an evening of epic comedy. Featuring Kagiso Lediga, Chester Missing, Joey Rasdien and Mashabela Galane, it is hosted by Nina Hastie.
“555 was created because R555-million is what UJ needs annually to ensure the success of our student body,” says Karen Coetzee, senior manager of the UJ Development Office. “This is a Student Aid Campaign aimed at raising funds and gifts-in-kind to support our students with class fees, text books, food, toiletries and other necessities required in their everyday life,” she explains. Host for the evening, Nina Hastie is a top South African female comic and UJ Arts & Culture’s Resident Comedienne spearheading the monthly Con Cowan Comedy Sessions. She has performed at major theatres around the country including The State Theatre, Wits Theatre and Joburg Theatre, and she has also headlined a range of comedy festivals. Perhaps best known for creating, writing, producing and starring in the SABC1 sketch comedy series the Pure Monate Show, Kagiso Lediga is an actor, producer, writer and television presenter in addition to his comedic talents. Sharing the stage with ventriloquist/puppeteer Conrad Koch is the outspoken and internationally-revered Chester Messing, South Africa’s top puppet political analyst. With appearances in movies such as Running Riot, Bunny Chow, Blitz Patrollie and Material (with Riaad Moosa) under his belt, Joey Rasdien has been described as the face of a new generation of South African comedy. IKUSASA Young Comedian of 2012, Mashabela Galane, rounds off the programme.
