Fourth-year BCom Economics and Econometrics student and para-rower at the University of Johannesburg (UJ), Lifa Hlongwa, will jet off to Italy to compete in the 17th International Para-Rowing Regatta from 9 to 11 June 2023. This will be his second appearance in the race.
The race is a traditional sporting event in Italy, organised on Varese Lake in Gavirate.
After drawing lessons from the 2022 16th rowing event, Hlongwa will be looking to improve his 2022 international results after finishing in 14th position in the first and 9th in the second regattas of the competition.
The South African youngster competed against young people representing Italy, France, Great Britain, Tunisia, Poland, Australia, Israel, Thailand, Canada, and Uzbekistan. Hlongwa joined the para rowing camp between 9 and 13 May 2022, prior to competition.
