UJ Men’s cricket dominates with historic third Enza Premier A title

The University of Johannesburg (UJ) Senior Men’s Cricket Team etched their name into the history books this past Sunday, 13 April 2025, by clinching their Enza Premier A 50 Over championship title for the third time at the UJ Main Oval in Westdene. This remarkable feat highlights the team’s growth and excellence with Head Coach and Manager Siyabonga Sibiya at the helm.

In a highly anticipated Johannesburg derby against Wits University, UJ delivered a commanding performance. They posted an impressive 240/10 in 49.5 overs, leaving Wits struggling to reach just 60/10 in 19.0 overs. UJ’s dominant display resulted in a resounding 180-run victory, solidifying their championship status.

“We are absolutely thrilled with the boys’ performance,” expressed Coach Sibiya. “This victory is evidently proof of the dedication and hard work the entire team puts in every day. To win this league three times in four seasons demonstrates UJ’s growth over the years. Congratulations to the players, the technical team, and the entire UJ Cricket community for this outstanding achievement.”

Sibiya further emphasized, “This group of players has been courageous, disciplined and committed to everything we have asked of them, they deserve the accolades.”
