For the first full year of university sports tournaments organised at stadiums and indoor arenas since the end of the COVID-19 pandemic, the majority of the 2022 university sports tournaments have ended. Only three University Sport South Africa (USSA) tournaments will be held between 3 and 10 December 2022 to wrap up the year completely.

The USSA basketball tournament is scheduled to take place between 3 and 5 December (3 on 3) and 6 and 9 December 2022 (5 on 5) at the Wits Hall in Braamfontein. USSA Cricket will take place in Tshwane from 5 to 10 December while football is scheduled for 4 to 9 December 2022 in Secunda, Mpumalanga Province.

UJ basketball won the USSA 3×3 championship in December 2021 at the University of Pretoria. The championship came just a month after they had lost in the Afro Varsity 3×3 Basketball Challenge in Nairobi, Kenya, in November 2021. The Orange Army will be looking to retain their title this year in Johannesburg as they take on other participating university teams.

On the other hand, UJ cricket will face the University of Free State (UFS Kovsies) at TUT Oval, Stellenbosch University (SU Maties) at Irene Country Club and the University of the Western Cape (UWC) at TUT Oval in their group stage matches.
