A global professional water management network recently selected a young UJ researcher as one of its fellows. Prof Tobias Barnard, Director: Water and Health Research Centre within the Faculty of Health Science at the University of Johannesburg (UJ) was selected to be a member of the International Water Association (IWA) Fellows’ Programme.
The programme seeks to recognise extraordinary individuals within the community of water professionals and to enlist their commitment and skills in advancing the knowledge and practice of water management through IWA.
“It is an honor to be selected as an IWA fellow in recognition of my contribution to the water sector, especially related to my young water professional (YWP) engagements. I look forward to influencing the water sector,” said Prof Barnard.
The professional mission of Prof Barnard is to contribute to knowledge development, research and capacity building in the urban sanitation field. His areas of interest include provision of sanitation to the urban poor, on-site decentralized sanitation, urban drainage, wastewater collection, treatment and reclamation/reuse, and residuals management.
IWA Fellows are outstanding water professionals, recognised for their unique contributions to advancing water science and management and to supporting the IWA’s mission and objectives.
