UJ’s Prof Letlhokwa Mpedi awarded prestigious awards at CEO Titans – Building Nations ceremony

Prof Letlhokwa George Mpedi, Executive Dean: Faculty of Law at the University of Johannesburg (UJ), has been awarded two awards at the recent CEO Titans-Building Nations Awards within the sector of Education and Training: Academic on Friday, 8 July 2016 at Midrand Conference Centre.

Prof Mpedi received both the South African and SADC Regional awards, in recognition of his efforts and leadership in research, industry development, social responsibility and his strategic vision for the sector.

Prof Mpedi is one of only a few black law deans in South Africa. He is also the first at the University of Johannesburg. Says Prof Mpedi: “I believe this has a profound and positive influence on young and upcoming generation of academics – particularly those from a humble background as myself.”

Prof Mpedi will be representing the Education and Training Sector of the Southern region at the continental awards ceremony to be hosted in October 2016.

This was the first of six events to take place in various regions of Africa. Awards are presented to leading men in Johannesburg, Mauritius, Kenya, Ghana and Zambia. These events aim to celebrate the achievements of the men who are advancing African economies and communities, promoting lasting connections with other leaders who are committed to the progress of their respective regions, nations and the continent as a whole.

Says Ms Annelize Wepener, Chief Executive: CEO Global: “To say that I am awed by these men’s efforts will be an understatement because it is worthy to note that each year , nations across Africa produce an entirely new breed of business leaders; all with the sole intention of spurring the African continent into the future. What makes the crop of men celebrated here even more exciting is the fact that they are a true representation of our beautiful continent, as diverse and unique as our beautiful Africa.”

“While poverty and strife affect many African countries, CEO Global believes that there are Titans who are building nations with the hope of making Africa one. They are African men who are making sure Africa achieves and utilises its “Power of One”, says Wepener. “Prof Mpedi is a true reflection of this type of man.”

For 16 years CEO Global has annually recognised the men leading and achieving in different sectors, committed to the growth and prosperity of Africa. More than 4900 nominations were received and each judging panel consisted of different industry leaders, to enable an unbiased selection of finalists.
