South Africa’s Deputy President, Mr Cyril Ramaphosa named Dr Banothile Makhubela, a Senior Lecturer and Researcher in Chemistry at the University of Johannesburg (UJ), as one of the board members of South Africa’s electricity public utility, Eskom.
The new Eskom board, chaired by businessman, Mr Jabu Mabuza comprises of a 13 member team, who will not only be responsible to strengthen corporate governance and ensure financial stability at the power utility, but also drive transformation.
Dr Makhubela, who has been an Independent Non-Executive Director at Eskom since June 2017, and in the past served as Non-Executive Director on the Board of Petro SA, was reappointed to the Eskom Board as announced on Saturday, 20 January 2018.
In 2017, Dr Makhubela was recognised as one of the Top 200 young South Africans by the Mail and Guardian, a South African weekly newspaper. She was selected under the science and technology category for her research contributions in the field of chemistry.
