Prof Ihron Rensburg, Vice-Chancellor and Principal of the University of Johannesburg (UJ), will deliver a keynote address championing “Reinventing Greatness: Responding to Urgent Global-level Responsibilities and Critical University-level Priorities”, at the 9th QS WorldClass Seminar to be held from April 4-6, 2016 in Sentosa, Singapore.
With the theme of “Innovation for Knowledge-based Economies: Education, Research and Governance”, held in partnership with the University of Johannesburg alongside and Nanyang Technological University (NTU), the QS WorldClass Seminar is set to be an impactful gathering of university as well as industry leaders to discuss the dynamism of the modern world economy and its interaction with higher education.
Prof Peter Vale, Director of UJ-NTU Johannesburg Institute for Advanced Studies (JIAS), based at the University of Johannesburg, will give a keynote address on “Driving Change”. JIAS is a joint advanced research-based initiative of the University of Johannesburg and Nanyang Technological University.
QS WorldClass seminar is a top-notch higher education event that exclusively convenes university leaders from around the world—especially Asian university presidents—in a prestigious setting to help universities develop the strategies they need to boost their global recognition and network in a relaxed atmosphere.
The traditional culture of open intellectual inquiry and debate at universities has metamorphosed into an institutional emphasis on measured outputs such as on strategic planning, performance indicators, quality assurance measures and academic audits. In addition, the necessity for economic viability has prompted the formation of initiatives that promote greater entrepreneurial skills as well as the development of new performative measures to enhance output and to establish and achieve targets.
