UJ supports students after accident

The University of Johannesburg’s (UJ) Centre for Psychological Services and Career Development (PsyCaD) immediately offered trauma counselling to injured students, their parents and student onlookers following a motor vehicle accident that occurred in front of the UJ’s Sophiatown Residence.

In the afternoon of Wednesday the 29th of January 2014, six students were knocked down by a car at the intersection of Kingsway and University Roads in Auckland Park. The injured students have been admitted to three hospitals in Johannesburg. Four of the students have been discharged after they received medical attention. Staff from UJ’s Student Affairs division visited all the injured students in hospital, spoke to the students’ parents and extended the University’s support to the family.
It appears that at the time of the accident, the car that was involved in the accident was being chased by the police. The driver of the car is in police custody and the SAPS is currently investigating the matter.
The University deeply regrets the injury of its students.
