The University of Johannesburg (UJ) has once again shown its dominance in the marketing and communication space, scooping a whopping 15 awards at the 2023 MACE (Marketing, Advancement, and Communication in Education) Excellence Awards. Established in the early eighties, the awards are held annually to celebrate and recognise outstanding work of marketing, advancement, and communication in the higher education sector in South Africa.
The awards ceremony, a highlight of the annual MACE congress, took place on Thursday, 16 November 2023 at the University of the Western Cape.
A record number of 255 entries were submitted with 153 awards conferred to 17 South African universities and TVET colleges. UJ was among the few institutions that stood out, securing a wide array of accolades across various categories. The team’s exceptional performance was highlighted by winning two of the prestigious gold awards as well as silver awards.

These awards are a testament to the University’s innovative and impactful campaigns in communication, marketing, and advancement. Dr Nolita Vukuza, UJ’s Senior Executive Director of University Relations, expressed her delight with the team’s remarkable achievement. “I am immensely proud that the University Relations team’s work has been recognised by our peers in the higher education communication and marketing industry.”
