As an Institution dedicated to the humanitarian legacy of Nelson Mandela, the University of Johannesburg (UJ) heeded the call to pledge time for community outreach initiatives, in commemoration of Mandela’s birthday on 18 July 2014.
Every year, UJ students and staff volunteer to give at least 67 minutes of their time to others to make the world a better place. This year is no different as students and staff will, once again, under the theme How to Serve – Using UJ values to lead like Mandela, contribute to Nelson Mandela Day.
On Friday, 18 July, the University’s Vice-Chancellor and Principal, Prof Ihron Rensburg, will deliver the keynote address thereafter participating students and staff will proceed to the various project points to commence with the actual Nelson Mandela Day activities. The event, to be held at the University’s Student Centre Area (Auckland Park Kingsway Campus), is scheduled to start at 08:30. A video, showcasing the previous years’ Nelson Mandela activities, will also be screened at the event.
