The University of Johannesburg (UJ) will launch the UJ Mancave Podcast on 30 June 2026, introducing a new student-centred platform designed to inspire honest conversations about masculinity, leadership and wellbeing while equipping young men to become purpose-driven leaders on campus and in society.
Developed through a partnership between UJ Student Affairs, Amatyma Mancave and UJ Broadcasting, including UJFM and UJTV, the podcast responds to the growing need for spaces where young men can engage openly with issues of identity, responsibility, relationships, mental wellbeing and personal growth.
Hosted by UJ alumnus, social entrepreneur and media personality TTMBHA, founder of the Amatyma Mancave, the podcast is produced in UJ Broadcasting’s state-of-the-art studios. It features authentic conversations with UJ male students, student leaders and members of the University community. By placing student voices at the centre of every episode, the series reflects the lived experiences, aspirations and challenges facing young men today.
The initiative forms part of UJ’s broader commitment to holistic student development and wellness. Through open dialogue and shared experiences, the podcast seeks to challenge harmful stereotypes, encourage self-reflection and promote positive models of masculinity rooted in responsibility, integrity and respect.
The inaugural episode, titled “Leading as a Man: Responsibility, Character and Influence in Student Leadership”, features Lehumo Dibakoane, President of the UJ Student Representative Council (SRC), and Aobakwe Kgothego, SRC Secretary-General.
The discussion explores what it means to lead with character in positions of influence, examining themes including positive masculinity, emotional maturity, accountability, mentorship, and the pressures facing young male leaders.
Future episodes will tackle issues affecting young men, including mental wellbeing, academic and financial pressures, relationships, gender-based violence and accountability, substance abuse, identity, leadership and personal growth.
Through these conversations, the podcast aims to foster meaningful dialogue while equipping students with the perspectives and confidence to thrive both at university and beyond.
Dr Nell Ledwaba, Senior Director: Student Affairs at UJ, said the podcast represents an important initiative to strengthen student wellbeing and leadership development.
“Young men face significant social, academic and personal pressures, yet many do not always feel comfortable discussing these challenges openly. The podcast creates a safe and supportive space where meaningful conversations can take place, where students can learn from one another and where positive masculinity and personal growth are encouraged. Ultimately, it is about empowering young men to thrive and contribute positively to society.”

According to TTMBHA, creator and host of the UJ Mancave Podcast, the series is intended to encourage authentic conversations that resonate with students.
“Young men often carry expectations and responsibilities that are rarely discussed openly. This podcast creates a space where honest conversations can challenge harmful stereotypes, encourage self-awareness and allow young men to learn from one another’s experiences. Through dialogue, we hope to inspire a generation of leaders defined by character, purpose and integrity.”
Mr Anathi Sidali, Senior Manager: UJ Broadcasting, said the initiative demonstrates how student-centred media can create meaningful social impact.
“UJ Broadcasting is committed to producing content that informs, inspires and reflects the lived experiences of our student community. The UJ Mancave Podcast is more than a series of conversations. It gives young men a platform to share their stories, engage with important issues and learn from one another while using the power of multimedia storytelling to promote positive social change.”
UJ SRC President Lehumo Dibakoane welcomed the initiative, saying it creates an important opportunity for students to reflect on leadership and responsibility.
“Leadership is about far more than titles or positions. It is about responsibility, integrity and the impact we have on those around us. This platform encourages meaningful conversations that will help students grow as leaders and as men who contribute positively to their communities.”
UJ Mancave Podcast launches on 30 June 2026 and will be available on UJTV, UJ Student Affairs digital platforms and major streaming services.
