[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]UJ’s Centre for Nanomaterials Science Research successfully hosted the 4th International Symposium On Electrochemistry, themed “Pure and Applied Electrochemistry” at UJ’s School of Hospitality. The Executive Dean of the Faculty of Science, Prof Debra Meyer welcomed and introduced UJ’s Vice Chancellor, Prof Tshilidzi Marwala, who delivered the opening address for the 3-day Symposium.
The Symposium was held on 3-5 April 2018 and sponsored by the National Research Foundation, DST/Mintek’s Nanotechnology Innovation Centre, Advanced Laboratory Solutions, Microsep, International Society of Electrochemistry, Protea Laboratory Solutions, Bruno Steiner Lab Consultancy and the University of Johannesburg. Academics from UJ’s Department of Applied Chemistry (presented by Prof Omotayo Arotiba Dr Nonhlangabezo Mabuba, Dr Nobanathi Maxakato, Prof Philiswa Nomngongo and Dr Duduzile Nkosi) formed the local organizing committee.
There were 35 poster presentations, presented by academics and postgraduate students from several universities and organisations including University of Kwa-Zulu Natal, University of Johannesburg, North West University Cape Peninsula University of Technology, Mintek, University of Western Cape, University of Pretoria and Witwatersrand University.
“The 4th Symposium on Electrochemistry was aimed at meeting the global challenges (especially in Africa) in water, biomedical, environmental, energy etc. by bringing together electrochemists and other scientists/engineers whose integral part of their research involves electrochemistry. It was a platform to share and update knowledge, stimulate new ideas, networking and collaborate. Special attention was given to students’ participations and interactions” explains UJ’s Professor Omotayo Arotiba, Chairperson of the Local Organising Committee.[/vc_column_text][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/3″][vc_column_text][/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/3″][vc_column_text][/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/3″][vc_column_text][/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][/vc_column][/vc_row]
