The University of Johannesburg (UJ) is celebrating a significant achievement after its first-year team, G1 Advisory Group, won the Deloitte CA of the Future Project 2026. The final event took place at Deloitte’s offices on 9 October 2026.
The winning team comprises four first-year students: Sandiswa Ayanda Qiniso Ngema, Mateen Cassim, Nqobile Sibongakonke Hlatshwayo and Rico Vosloo.
The competition challenged students to apply their accounting knowledge, strategic thinking and problem-solving skills to complex business scenarios, with finalist teams presenting their solutions to a judging panel.
Following months of preparation, the teams participated in a two-day final programme that tested their technical knowledge, innovation, leadership and ability to communicate and defend their ideas. The programme also provided opportunities to engage with Deloitte professionals, gain industry insights and develop skills relevant to the future of the accounting profession.
G1 Advisory Group’s achievement highlights the capabilities of UJ’s first-year students and their ability to apply their learning to practical business challenges.

Ms Vesh Ried of Deloitte commended the team’s performance, saying: “Their performance throughout the programme, and particularly in the finals, was outstanding, and they represented the University of Johannesburg exceptionally well.”
UJ’s Professor Ahmed Mohammadali Haji also congratulated the team on its success.
“We are very proud of our UJ G1 Advisory Group for winning the prestigious competition. Our appreciation to Deloitte and the entire team for providing our students the opportunity to flourish,” he said.
The win reflects the value of collaboration between universities and industry in providing students with opportunities to test their knowledge, develop professional skills and engage with real-world business challenges.
UJ congratulates the members of G1 Advisory Group on their achievement and thanks Deloitte, the judges, participating universities, academics and professionals who contributed to the 2026 competition.
