UJ first university in SA to offer Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA) Finance Leadership Program™

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The University of Johannesburg’s (UJ) College of Business and Economics (CBE) School of Accounting (SOA) Department of Accountancy is extremely proud to announce UJ as the first university in South Africa to offer the Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA) Finance Leadership Program™ – a ground-breaking innovation and collaboration with CIMA, South Africa.

The CGMA Finance Leadership Program™(FLP) is a ‘guided, digital-first learning and assessment experience’ that enables students to complete the coveted Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) qualifications in an online platform that is structured and cost-effective.  Moreover, gaining prospects of being at the cutting edge of skills and competencies, career progression, remuneration and lifelong learning.

The program will complement the formal CIMA accredited tertiary qualifications by assisting students to complete their professional qualifications and obtain the ACMA, CGMA designation and all the learning will be done digitally providing access to students across South Africa and the continent – in countries where it is not yet available. According to CIMA, the FLP has the same competencies as other routes to the Professional Qualification and is designed to train finance professionals for careers in management accounting.

Accountancy@UJ has been a pioneer in preparing students to write the CIMA professional qualification exams and the FLP is another leap towards this goal.

Professor Ben Marx, Head of the Department of Accountancy at UJ says that this initiative speaks to Accountancy@UJ being a leader in the field of Accounting Education and an enabler of capacity building for the world of work. The Department is very proud of its long-standing association with CIMA and this initiative is also recognition of the quality of the graduate programs presented by the university. The CGMA FLP will offer UJ alumni and students a cost-effective online route to completing the CIMA professional qualification. Professor Marx also complements the support of UJ’s management in fostering a stable and enabling environment that drives excellence and innovation.

More is demanded from finance professionals in the digital world, where new technology is defining businesses. In the past, finance professionals focused mainly on numbers, but their transformed role requires them to deliver solutions that will have a sustainable impact while creating and preserving value for businesses. The FLP is a response to this transformation in the finance profession and confirms CIMA as a global leader in management accounting.
