The South African Law Deans Association, at its meeting held in July 2015, nominated Professor Letlhokwa George Mpedi, Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of Johannesburg (UJ), to replace Professor Vivienne Lawack on the Council of the South African Judicial Education Institute
Prof Mpedi, a UJ alumnus, holds a B Juris degree (1996) and LLB degree (1998) from Vista University. In 2001 the LLM degree in Labour Law was conferred upon him by the then Rand Afrikaans University. Apart from being Professor and Vice-Dean, he is also the Director at CICLASS in the Department of Mercantile Law at UJ. He lectures labour law and social security to LLB, postgraduate and certificate students and has delivered papers at numerous national and international conferences. Prof Mpedi publishes on labour law and social security.
SAJEI was established in order to promote the independence, impartiality, dignity, accessibility and effectiveness of the courts through continuing judicial education as provided for in the South African Judicial Education Institute Act 14 of 2008.
