The University of Johannesburg (UJ) embraces the latest 2021 Facebook University Ranking, released on 7 July 2021, in which it once again received global salutation to be listed in the top 200 Universities on Facebook, taking position at number 80.
The listing shows UJ as the most-liked institution on Facebook with over 500 thousand likes to its Facebook page in June 2021. The University’s position in the ranking is even more impressive given that the list of most popular fan pages on Facebook is dominated by global Universities.

Thank you to each and everyone of our Facebook followers for putting us right there among the most loved University Facebook pages in the world,” says Ms Lesmarie Bentley-Steyn, Senior Manager: UJ Marketing and Brand.
“The UJ social media team follows a social media strategy that is informed by research done on the university’s target audience, social media user behaviour and overall social media trends,” said Bentley-Steyn. “In addition to this, there is a content plan that is followed to ensure that the audience is informed, educated and entertained. Our content is relatable, human and caring. We owe the success of the page to our UJ community and social media followers”.
The indicators show a drastic increase from last year with the number of followers increasing by 82 742.
The uniRank Facebook University Ranking aim is to provide a non-academic League Table of all world Universities based on the popularity (number of likes or fans count) of their main Facebook page.
