According to Head Coach and Cricket Club Manager, Siyabonga Sibiya, the Orange Army still has a chance to defend their title with three games remaining before the 2022/2023 Enza Premier League season ends. The team will be looking to finish on top of the stands as reigning champions. UJ’s past two games have reflected how determined and progressive players are to defend their title.

“We really believe in the structures we have in place. The team has had a few good weeks in training and preparing physically to endure the physical pressure. We are experimenting with a more integrated training routine in terms of giving young players a chance to represent UJ Prem A, which allows us to have a bigger pool of players for selection,” says Sibiya.

He added, “There isn’t anything specific that we can say let to us losing the past two games. The players are doing their best. Last weekend’s result against Wanderers Cricket Club was the response we wanted. We won that fixture with a bonus point.”

After their recent win in Lenasia, the UJ rugby team have to win all their remaining fixtures to retain their title. In their next encounter on home soil, UJ take on Khosa Prem A at the Soweto Stadium on Sunday, 19 March 2023.
