UJ Senior Men’s Cricket reclaim the Enza Premier A League championship

Ryan Maritz became the star of the show in the final showdown of the 2023/2024 Enza Premier A Club League as the University of Johannesburg (UJ) were crowned champions with a 337/5 win over the GH Old Edwardians (336/7). Maritz was named Player of the Match having made 135 runs, the highest of the match, in a great combination duet with captain Kieron Croome.

The UJ Senior Men’s Cricket chased down a challenging target of 336 runs set by the Old Edwardians, sealing the victory with 5 wickets and 60 balls to spare. Ryan Maritz, the Player of the Match, was the top scorer for UJ with a phenomenal 135 runs, including 16 boundaries and 6 sixes. David Rhoda provided crucial support with a well-played 76 runs. Gerhard le Roux and Captain Kieron Croome also contributed significantly with 40 and 62 runs, respectively.

UJ Cricket’s Redemption Story

This win marked a significant comeback for UJ after finishing third in the league the previous season and facing relegation worries in the USSA championship. Coach Siyabonga Sibiya expressed immense pride in the team’s determination and exceptional performance, highlighting their embodiment of the UJ spirit.
