Sisanda Dumisa, Boikanyo Motlhamme, Londeka Mavimbela, and Sibusiso Msibi continue to dominate athletics championships for the University of Johannesburg (UJ). The four won gold medals in the recent Central Gauteng Athletics (CGA) Cross-Country championship on Saturday, 17 August 2024 in Kagiso township, west of Johannesburg.
UJ’s Athletics team won 14 medals (four gold, 4 silver and six bronze). Msibi and Mavimbela took gold in the Under-23 men’s and women’s 4km categories, with Dumisa in the senior women’s category. Motlhamme competed in the senior men’s 2km run.
Another UJ quartet including Khunedi Mashishi, Nicholas Whittaker, Faith Mabhena, and Bongani Mgcina, clinched four silver medals for the University.

With the Paris Olympic Games having concluded recently, I hope these athletes found inspiration from their performances as they were watching from home. We wish to see them compete at such higher levels.
