UJ Arts & Culture will be hosting Tom Coash, the American playwright (and director) who penned the explosive CRY HAVOC for the Johannesburg run of the play. While in South Africa, he will host a two-day playwriting workshop at the UJ Arts Centre on the Kingsway Campus.
The workshop will focus on how to begin writing a play. “Everybody has stories they want to tell but when confronted with the blank page, have no idea where to start,” says Coash. “This workshop will incorporate writing exercises and discussion of various strategies with the aim of making those first few lines easier to write. Whether you’ve yet to write your first play or have several under your belt, the workshop is aimed at anybody who’s ever stared at the blank page and wanted to fill it.”
The workshop will take place over two half days:

mditodi@uj.ac.za to register. The workshop is presented free of charge by UJ Arts & Culture, however delegates will be required to arrange their own transport and meals. Please note that the remaining spaces will be allocated on a first-come first served basis.
CRY HAVOC is directed by Alby Michaels, designed by Angela Nemov with lighting by Oliver Hauser and costumes by Barati Montswai & Angela Nemov. The cast features David Dennis as Nicholas, Brenda Radloff as Ms Nevers and Gopala Chetty as Mohammed. CRY HAVOC runs from 08 to 19 October nightly at 19:30 in the Con Cowan Theatre.
