UJ announces GSA-Boogertman + Partners International Lecture Series 2016

The Graduate School of Architecture (GSA) at the University of Johannesburg’s (UJ) Faculty of Art, Design and Architecture (FADA) is delighted to announce a new partnership to host the International Lecture Series Winter 2016 with Boogertman + Partners, Africa’s leading architectural practice, according to Building Design’s WA 100 2016.

Head of School Prof Lesley Lokko said, ‘It’s a fantastic opportunity for students in the Gauteng region to hear world-class speakers firsthand, and a great platform for new African voices. Bob van Bebber (Director at Boogertman + Partners) could not have been more enthusiastic and we’re incredibly grateful to Bob, and the entire team for their support.”

The new sponsorship package will see international speakers and local emerging talents give talks in the GSA’s ‘downtown’ home, the GAP at MOAD, beginning August 2016.

The partnership falls under the Boogertman + Partners Academy, a unit operating within the company that celebrates design and creates design consciousness amoungst individuals currently within the industry, as well as those seeking to become an architect, interior designer or urban designer.

“The Academy is underpinned by four positioning pillars that focus on design merit; transformation & upliftment; research & knowledge sharing and skills development,” added Carin Dreyer, Marketing Manager for Boogertman + Partners Architects. “We believe that this partnership will further our vision in our ongoing commitment to skills development and transformation as a company and a profession, and are looking forward to the first series in Q4 2016.”

Dates and speakers will be confirmed shortly, but the international line-up is set to include British architect David Adjaye, Nigeria’s Kunlé Adeyemi, New York based interdisciplinary design studio Diller + Scofidio, Rural Studio, London-based Sam Jacobs (FAT), Danish architect Bjarke Ingels and many more.
