Trendsetting at UJ’s Fashion Fusion

On 15 November 2011 it was time for glitz and glam at the University of Johannesburg’s (UJ’s) Fashion Fusion. This annual event is hosted by the UJ Department of Fashion Design.
The best garments, designed and made by the students, are carefully selected by the lecturers. “Every year Fashion Fusion seems to set new standards”, says the Head of the UJ Department of Fashion Design, Mrs Desiree Smal.
This year Fashion Fusion took the format of a live fashion interaction. Guests were not only able to meet the designers and talk about the inspiration behind their designs, but also view the original sketches and get up close to the garments. This is along the lines of the latest international exhibiting trends for fashion, called ‘pop-up shops’.

Every year the event grows with more VIPs from the fashion industry, media and general fashion enthusiasts attending. Visitors were also able to view top work from University of Johannesburg Jewellery Design, Graphic Design, Multimedia and Fine Art students.
