Sibongile Khumalo, Don Mattera and Sipho ‘Hotstix’ Mabuse collaborate for the 2nd Annual Hugh Masekela Lecture

The University of Johannesburg (UJ) in collaboration with the wRite associates will host the 2nd Annual Hugh Masekela Lecture delivered by Dr Sibongile Khumalo as she explores the theme “Of Riches, Wealth and Powerful Minds: Reaching Deep Into The Wealth Of Our Country and Owning Its Riches”, with respondents and fellow artistes Don Mattera and Sipho ‘Hotstix’ Mabuse.

The lecture, in partnership with UJ’s Faculty of Humanities will be held at the Funda UJabule Soweto campus on Wednesday, 9 September 2015 at 17:30pm.

“How can we tap into the wisdom that will strengthen us with a sense of doing, as we navigate a milieu that has the potential to undermine our ability to dream? The richness of our cultural landscape presents us with many opportunities to live fuller lives, without the exploitation of some for the benefit of others,” muses the internationally acclaimed award-winning Dr Sibongile Khumalo. “How do we shift our minds from the mentality of lack gripping so much of society, to prosperity thoughts and outlook?”

The lecture was launched in 2014, in honour of Hugh Masekela’s legacy which is in line with the University’s vision to foster ideas that are rooted in African epistemology, and also address the critical needs and aspirations of South African society and Africa in general.

“The Hugh Masekela Lecture is growing by leaps and bounds, which is the truest testimony of celebrating Bra Hugh beyond his vast and impressive musical canvass, taking into account his intellectual and heritage activist footprint,” said Mr Morakabe Seakhoa, the Managing Director of the wRite associates and Project Director of the Hugh Masekela Annual Lecture. He continued, “The aim of the programme is to create a platform for heritage, cultural, academic, art, and social discourse to celebrate and reflect on Masekela’s philosophy, his work and contribution to the liberation and betterment of society.”

The Lecture is open to the public. For confirmations, please send your name and surname to unathit@uj.ac.za or info@writeassociates.co.za.
