The purpose of this Hackathon Challenge is to foster effective digital collaboration, boost the innovation culture and ultimately establish the idea-sharing ecosystem and drive creativity towards a shared goal. Through driving digital collaboration and developing high-value actionable solutions that can be used as vehicles to generate more business opportunities.

PAICTA are the official sponsors for the 2020 UJ TPC Hackathon Challenge. PAICTA are advocates for Africa’s ICT SMEs’ growth and economic development by fostering digital inclusion, collaboration and increased co-operation in the ICT digital eco-system throughout Africa. They will also be sourcing out industry leading Mentors and Judges to supervise and work with the students on the day. Cisco will also be involved on the day, ensuring that their experienced engineers provide the necessary mentoring support, coaching and guidance to students so they can achieve the best go-to-market ideas and solutions.

“By hosting this Hackathon Challenge, the UJ TPC wants to connect, collaborate, and solve specific problems based on a pre-decided theme or real-world social problems. This challenge is for all UJ students from different fields of study where they can showcase their talent, creativity and innovation in solving society’s most pressing challenges as well as igniting an entrepreneurial mind-set amongst the students. Ultimately, this will be the best opportunity for students to nurture their design-thinking skills and gain professional experience in problem-solving” mentioned by Mr Ronny Mabokela, Head of The Technopreneurship Centre.

Therefore, TPC are inviting all UJ students who are passionate about developing innovative solutions to register by 21 November 2020 and take part in this great opportunity. Where they will get to learn and upskill, discover technologies, new teams and demonstrate their skills and talents outside of their typical field of study, improve problem solving skills, develop entrepreneurial skills and bring their ideas to live and capture valuable feedback from industry experts. This is an opportunity for students to increase their chances of employment and generate student start-ups.

“Hackathons are the future of skills development and creative technological solutions to societal challenges. UJ TPC plays a pivotal role of leading these kind of initiatives with the aim of creating more opportunities for students. This is the starting point of more future hackathons which are aimed at developing economic boosting technological products” added by Mr Mabokela.
