Public Lecture: The Open Source Lab by Prof Reinout Meijboom

​Public Lecture: Wednesday, 6 November @ 12:00 on “The Open Source Lab” by Prof Reinout Meijboom @ APK Library (Level 6).

About the talk: The presentation will discuss the principles behind Open Source Hardware. This will be followed by a number of examples of Open Source Hardware which have been developed in the Department of Chemical Sciences. Finally, a broader overview of the potential of Open Source Hardware will be given, with a specific focus on poverty alleviation and broad education.

About the speaker: Prof Reinout Meijboom is rated B3 by the NRF. He raised through the ranks at UJ to full professor and is a Head of the Department of Chemical Sciences (APK). He has published over 150 research papers and was awarded the Faculty of Science research award four times in ten years. Prof Meijboom is also happily married to Prof Lizelle Piater, has two dogs and two cats and in his spare time, he trains Kyokushin karate and an ancient Japanese martial art.
