The University of Johannesburg (UJ) Choir went from nearly only white to completely integrated – and globally recognised – in its first decade.
Under the baton of UJ Choir Master, Renette Bouwer, the award winning UJ Choir, singing both African and Western music, are building bridges between cultures in South Africa.
This year, the annual UJ Choir Celebration Concert, on Friday, 12 February 2016, will see a massive choir of 100+ singers across various generations of the UJ Choir and UJ Alumni Choir performing magnificent works of composer, pianist, and music editor, Dan Forrest.
“Just imagine what the experience is today for alumni from the seventies or eighties to be part of this historical event – young and old, making music together. As a conductor I am proud and blessed to have witnessed and be part of this incentive,” says Ms Bouwer.
The first half of the programme will be an award winning 2015 Europe Concert Programme, followed by a second half where the current UJ Choir will be joined by the former Rand Afrikaans University (RAU) and UJ Choir Alumni members, performing Requiem for the Living by Dan Forrest with Chamber Orchestra, Soprano and Tenor Solo.
Tickets will not be available for purchasing on the day of the event. To book please email choir@uj.ac.za or call 011 5593705. Bookings can also be done at any Computicket outlet.
