Orange Reign: UJ blitz UP-Tuks 5-0 to claim women’s Varsity Football title

Wrapped in a wall of orange sound and fueled by a roaring home crowd at the UJ Soweto Stadium, the University of Johannesburg (UJ) Women’s Football Team put on an absolute masterclass, steamrolling the University of Pretoria (UP-Tuks) 5-0 to hoist the 2026 Women’s Varsity Football trophy.

From the opening whistle, UJ played with terrifying intent. Sthembile Sandleni set the tempo in the 12th minute, slipping a magnificent pass to star striker Mpho Dlamini, who drilled a low, clinical finish into the bottom-right corner.

With mid-field maestro Lindelwa Mabuza pulling the strings, UJ pinned Tuks inside their own half. In the 23rd minute, Dlamini turned creator, carving open the left flank and serving up a precise cross for Mabuza to tap home. Just four minutes later, Kabelo Mokoena played a slick one-two with Sthembile Msomi inside the box before burying UJ’s third. Tuks attempted to launch a counter via Sizakele Khumalo, but UJ defender Angel Musazi locked down the wing, ensuring a 3-0 cushion at the break.

UJ showed no mercy in the second half. Kamogelo Maponya broke clear down the right and found Sbongakonke Mzobe, who tucked a neat finish into the bottom corner past a helpless Akani Maluleke. Maponya wasn’t done – delivering another sweeping cross from the right to find Mabuza, who completed her brace and sealed a historic five-goal rout.

A flawless tactical execution on home turf sees the Orange Army crowned undisputed champions of 2026.
