Number of top achievers at UJ in 2011 exceeds all expectations

​A record number of 320 first-year students at the University of Johannesburg (UJ), having obtained an average of 75% or more in their June 2011 examinations, will be acknowledged and celebrated at a luncheon at the Auckland Park Kingsway Campus on Friday, 23 September 2011.
This year produced the second highest number of top achievers since the inception of UJ. In 2005, the first-year top achieving group amounted to 239, followed by 200 students in 2006 and 2007. The years 2008 and 2009, produced 189 and 195 top achievers, respectively. In 2010, the first-year top achieving group amounted to 326.​
Eight top achievers ​matriculated from Hoërskool Linden. Three students obtained an average of 89 plus per cent. Anton Johan Steenkamp, who matriculated from Goudrif Hoërskool, obtained an overall average of 92,67 per cent, and is studying BIng Mechanical Engineering. Daniella Visser received a more than meritorious second place with an average of 90.00 per cent. Visser is studying towards BSc Information Technology, and she matriculated from Glenvista High. Dawn Ingrid Atkins, who matriculated from the National School of Arts and is studying BEd achieved an average of 89 per cent.
188 top achievers hail from the Faculty of Economic and Financial Sciences, followed by the Faculty of Management with 44 top achievers. The Faculty of Humanities and the Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment produced 27 and 26 top achievers, respectively. The Faculty of Science yield 12 and the Faculty of Art, Design and Architecture boast 9 top achievers. The Faculty of Health Sciences produced 6 top achievers while the Faculty of Education and the Faculty of Law each had 4 top achievers.
Guests invited to attend this prestigious function include representatives of the schools where these top achievers matriculated, accompanied by their headmasters and members of their leadership bodies.
