Gordhan joins UJ leadership seminar

​In the midst of current political turmoil and the recent downgrade of South Africa’s economic stance, the importance of agile, ethical leadership has come into sharp focus. On 22 May, the University of Johannesburg (UJ) will play host to a highly prominent line-up of South African speakers at their inaugural leadership seminar titled Change Management: Leading in a shifting world.

The seminar forms part of the UJ Alumni Convocation Leadership series aimed at provoking South African minds and this event will see speakers specifically discussing the highly significant challenges currently facing the South African people.

Says UJ Convocation President, Mr Mbali Mkhonto; “UJ’s vision, as an international University of choice, is to dynamically shape our shared future. It is therefore fitting that we create a dedicated platform for our alumni and the public at large to engage in the pressing challenges facing our current and future leaders – the economy, political landscape, leadership and the importance of sustainable models – so that they are continually capacitated to be catalysts of growth on our continent.”

The speaker line-up includes leading South African politician, former Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan. Pravin will give the Key-note address titled: ‘Economy 4.0: The global revolution, urbanisation and digital transformation and what it means for the South African economy.

Other speakers include Justus Malala (prominent political analyst and journalist) who will speak about ‘Investment in South Africa and the continent’ and Musa Kalenga (brand communication specialist, author and strategic marketer) whose topic ‘Act like a human, think like a brand‘ will explore the notion of impactful business in a digital world and the 4th industrial revolution. Prominent economist and UJ Alumnus Mike Schussler will speak about ‘The power of rating agencies’ and UJ academic, Nickey Janse van Rensburg will address the topic of ‘Sustainable development through alleviating unemployment and aiding investment from the ground up’. Broadcaster, Media specialist Debora Patta will also join the line-up of influential speakers and will speak on : Re-invention – how a phoenix rises from the ashes.

The full-day event caters for 150 delegates and will take place at the Protea Auditorium, UJ School of Tourism and Hospitality in Auckland Park, Johannesburg.
