UJ celebrates Secretaries Day 2015

​​​​The University of Johannesburg (UJ) hosted a remarkable event to celebrate Secretaries Day with its Administrative Assistants from the different faculties, departments and divisions, at the Wanderers Club in Illovo on Wednesday, 2 September 2015.

“In celebration of the University’s 10-year-old milestone, never underestimate what you do because you make a difference at UJ,” said the Executive Director: Human Resources, Dr Mala Singh in her welcome address. “You are a reflection of the resilient and strong employees within the University of Johannesburg. You hold the stage as you face so many challenges and as you serve as a proud ambassador.”

“The event was highly valuable to me. I exchanged knowledge and information about my profession, and learned more relevant information that I will use in the future,” said Ms Lebohang Mawelela, Administrative Assistant: Community Engagement and one of the attendees.

In addition to a 5 –course-meal, the stars of the day enjoyed a holistic facilitated workshop by Ms Marjon Meyer from CBM Training which equipped the staff with tips on emotional intelligence, professionalism and self-leadership. Other key points looked at included discovering ‘who and what’ your manager’s style is and how the world has changed for PAs.

There were prizes given to some of the attendees. Sophie Disoloane from the Academic Development Centre (ADC) was awarded Best dressed PA, Best Hat went to Isabel de Klerk from Operations, and Best Dressed Man went to Ashmore Nkuna from the Centre for Psychological Services and Career Development (PsyCad).
