UJ-led research project brings water security to Limpopo’s Buysdorp village

Deep in Limpopo’s mountains, the University of Johannesburg partnered with the Buysdorp community to tackle water challenges. When UJ researchers arrived, they didn’t come to teach – they came to learn. This rural community already understood climate change impacts on their water sources. Through collaboration, water testing, and geophysical surveys, UJ helped them understand groundwater potential while documenting traditional knowledge. “UJ took fear out of our community,” says elder Cecily Buys. “There’s no fear anymore for the water.”
