Hosted by the University of Johannesburg’s Centre for Data and Digital Communication (CDDC) and the South African Research Chair in Industrial Development (SARChI-ID), in collaboration with the Department of Employment and Labour, a celebration marking 30 years of democracy will feature President Cyril Ramaphosa paying tribute to workers’ struggles, with a special focus on the role and legacy of Elijah Barayi – one of the founding leaders of both the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) and the Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU).
