The UNESCO Centre for Global Education (UNESCOCFORGE) and Independent Pan-African Youth Parliament (IPAYP) in collaboration with the Youth Development Institute of South Africa (YDISA) at the University of Johannesburg (UJ) will host the Post Youth Forum Africa.
YDISA is actively involved in promoting this event which underscores and promotes the mandate of the Institute as a unique base for youth development in South Africa and the continent.
Under the theme African Youth and the Roadmap to the Implementation of Agenda 2030, the Youth Forum Africa will take place on Friday, 13 May at the Constitutional Hill, Johannesburg, followed by a Gala Dinner and Awards ceremony, at the STH Building, Bunting road, University of Johannesburg, on Saturday 14 May 2016.
The objective of the forum is to provide a platform for African Youth to identify possible ways to contribute positively to intergovernmental plan of action for the socio-economic development of young persons on the continent, establish partnerships and adequate support for the African region to ensure their success in achieving the targets of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
This is a Pan-African event, a first of its kind that brings together youth from across Africa following the youth forum that took place in Paris in October 2015, and New York, United States in February, 2016.
This Youth Forum focuses on repositioning African Youth for regional development through creating a regional platform to share knowledge and best practices. It is important to create resources for integrating African youth in the operationalisation of national agenda for sustainable development, to leverage the strength and power of the youth to bolster innovation and entrepreneurship on the continent.
At the 9th Forum of UNESCO, it was stated that the “youth are global citizens urgently needed for sustainable planet”.
