Prof David Bilchitz, Director of the South African Institute for Advanced Constitutional, Public, Human Rights and International Law and a researcher from the Department of Public Law at the University of Johannesburg (UJ) was awarded the Georg Forster Research Fellowship from the Alexander Von Humboldt Foundation in June 2016.
This Foundation seeks to promote academic co-operation between excellent scholars around the world. It awards fellowships for a stay in Germany to scholars assessed through a rigorous application process.
Prof Bilchitz will utilise the Fellowship during his sabbatical from June 2017 to June 2018 and embark on the process of writing a new monograph during that period. His host institution in Germany will be the Humboldt University in Berlin. He will be hosted by the Chair of Public and Comparative Law, Prof Philipp Dann.
Prof Bilchitz is the Secretary-General of the International Association of Constitutional Law. He has received an NRF ‘B’ Rating as an internationally acclaimed researcher and is a member of the South African Young Academy of Science.
