UJ’s Medical Imaging and Radiation Sciences makes an international impact

University of Johannesburg (UJ) academic staff member from the Department of Medical Imaging and Radiation Sciences (MIRS), Ms Barbara van Dyk visited Alzaiem Alazhari University (AAU) in Khartoum, Sudan, in May 2016 and served as an external examiner for qualifying radiography students to help maintain academic standards and monitor assessment.

Said Ms van Dyk: “A Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) was signed between UJ’s MIRS Department and Alzaiem Alazhari University (AAU). The partnership aims at establishing a mutually beneficial relationship between academic and research collaboration and lecturer exchange programmes.”

Van Dyk’s duties as an external examiner entailed moderating exam papers, reviewing research projects and conducting oral exams for fourth year students as part of the AAU Quantity Assurance program.

Van Dyk concluded: “My three year term as an external examiner has reached the end, however UJ will continue to collaborate with AAU as per the MoA.”
