UJ TTO showcases innovation at the Science Forum South Africa

The University of Johannesburg (UJ)’s Technology Transfer Office (UJ TTO) is taking part in the Science Forum South Africa (SFSA) at the CSIR International Convention Centre, where it is showcasing a range of home-grown innovations and engaging with potential partners, investors and researchers.

The forum once again brought together researchers, innovators, investors, funders and organisations committed to shaping the future of science and technology in South Africa. For UJ’s Technology Transfer Office, the event provided a valuable platform to demonstrate the University’s growing innovation capabilities and highlight its commitment to strengthening innovation readiness. It also allowed the TTO to showcase how it supports researchers across disciplines and accelerates the translation of intellectual property into impactful, market-ready solutions.

Participation in the forum created meaningful opportunities to explore future collaborations, strategic partnerships and funding prospects. Engagements with key stakeholders in the national and international innovation ecosystem reinforced the importance of collective action in driving research and technology that can meaningfully transform society.

UJ is presenting a diverse portfolio of technologies that address national and global challenges across health, mining, agriculture, engineering, energy and digital innovation. Among the innovations featured are the Ubuntu Mobile Water Testing Lab; a novel production method for scopolamine; a diabetes-treating phyto-constituent; technologies for 3D-printed food snacks; a rapid barley-screening method; the NULA reusable sanitary product; and a stretcher-chair designed for emergency transport.

The UJ TTO is committed to supporting researchers and student innovators by protecting intellectual property, fostering partnerships and advancing technology commercialisation. Its presence at SFSA demonstrates the University’s dedication to reimagining the future through innovation and entrepreneurship.
