The University of Johannesburg (UJ) Sport Awards are revving up for their 20th edition, ready to crown the titans of the campus sporting world. On Friday 14 November 2025, the UJ Arts Theatre in Auckland Park will be the arena where the university honours its best-performing student-athletes. This year’s gala promises a clash of sporting titans, featuring a dynamic mix of seasoned veterans and fresh-faced newcomers, all battling for the coveted top honours.

Though a strong core of experienced returnees are in the running, the pitch is wide open – the majority of the nominees for the 2025 awards are making their electrifying debut.
Contenders for UJ Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year – The fast and the furious
Five phenomenal male athletes have powered their way to the top of the nomination list, each delivering a season of championship-level performances. On the women’s side, the women’s category features five stellar athletes who have delivered a masterclass in commitment, claiming multiple titles on local and international stages.
The stage is set for a monumental evening of recognition. More than 40 candidates, including individuals, teams and clubs, are in the running for the top accolades.
There are ten categories to honour those who have excelled between November 2024 and October 2025. The Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year as well as the Student-Athlete, Team and Club of the Year categories feature five nominees each. The Age Group Sportsman and Sportswoman have four contenders each, while the Club Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year category feature three nominees each.
