UJ seeks to raise R20 million through #GivingTuesday to drive transformative change

This GivingTuesday, the University of Johannesburg (UJ) will galvanise a new era of giving with its ambitious “Double Our Future Impact” campaign, aiming to raise R20 million in celebration of UJ’s 20th anniversary.

This campaign aligns UJ with a global community of changemakers, rallying support to amplify educational access, fuel cutting-edge research, and uplift communities. With a focus on both immediate impact and sustained progress, UJ is engaging alumni, partners, and supporters to help drive this vision forward.

A bold mission: Doubling impact, shaping futures

As UJ reflects on 20 years of transformative contributions to education and society, the “Double Our Future Impact” campaign sets out to tackle urgent priorities. Funds raised will directly support UJ’s mission in three core areas:

  • Empowering students: Expanding access to quality education by increasing funded student bursaries, opening doors for more young South Africans to reach their potential.
  • Pioneering research: Advancing impactful research to address socio-economic challenges, with a strong emphasis on innovation in the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
  • Community development: Strengthening outreach initiatives that improve lives, promote sustainability, and foster resilient communities.

“GivingTuesday provides an extraordinary platform for people to rally around causes that matter,” said Prof. Kathleen Van der Linde, Acting Executive Dean of UJ’s Faculty of Law. “By participating in this global movement, we invite everyone to join UJ’s mission of change – one that uplifts not only our students and faculty but the broader community.”

UJ’s campaign will be powered by collaborations with corporate sponsors, alumni networks, philanthropic foundations, and UJ’s academic faculties, who are united in the goal of doubling UJ’s impact. Key partners include the UJ Trust and major corporations dedicated to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). Together, these partners amplify the campaign’s reach, ensuring that GivingTuesday 2024 will have a lasting legacy.
