On Tuesday, 12 September 2017 the University of Johannesburg (UJ) received R75 000 from South Africa’s educational finance and fund management solution specialist, Fundi.

The University of Johannesburg has been proactive in acquiring funding for students who do not qualify for NSFAS and cannot afford to pay for their fees. The University has approached multiple stakeholders, including corporates, government and SETA to raise funds for student food and resident tuition. To date UJ has raised over R170 million and Fundi is one of the external donors to assist with the fundraising.

“In true Fundi fashion, we continue to invest in the future leaders of our continent, the youth,” says Fundi Chief Executive Officer, Mr Amasi Mwela. “If my father had not got the education I would not be where I am today, therefore I would like to do that for someone else,” said Mr Mwela.

The Vice- Chancellor of Finance (acting) Mrs Nolwazi Mamorare noted that the biggest strain is the food allowance due to budget restrictions. ”UJ is really fortunate to have excellent partners,” she added.
